Our joint project with Metsä Group has been in progress for a long time, and we have put a lot of work into it. The project is a highly automated complete delivery of Kerto LVL panel billet processing, including design, manufacture, installation and commissioning.
The two LVL beam lines, sawing and packaging lines are on schedule at the new mill in Äänekoski. The delivery started in spring 2025. The mechanical equipment installations will be completed later this year. The Äänekoski mill is expected to start operating in the second half of 2026.
The installation of the first line has been completed, and the line was handed over to the customer at the beginning of December. The second line is also almost completely installed, and production will start after that.
The products arrive at the line as billets, and the they are processed further on the line into bundles, according to customer-specific requirements. On the line, the LVL panel billets are first sanded, cut and split into beams of different dimensions. Finally, the beams are bundled and packaged into protective plastic for transport to the customers.
Kerto LVL, or laminated wood, is structural veneer. It is strong, rigid and light and its dimensions remain stable, which make it ideal for new construction and renovation of load-bearing structures, such as load-bearing beams, columns and vertical structures, roof, floor and wall elements.
Our cooperation with Metsä Group further strengthens our position in our core competence: automation and mechanics, in particular, the further processing of wood and the treatment of highly processed products. Our customers include the largest players in wood construction.
